Marketing and Events Manager
Sustain SC is a statewide nonprofit that exists to build and grow a more sustainable South Carolina at the intersection of commerce and conservation. As an organization, we help businesses meet their sustainability goals with local solutions to benefit our economy, environment and people.
Sustain SC is hiring a Marketing and Events Manager to run all of Sustain SC’s communications and event planning. The following attributes and skills are critical for success in this role:
Excellent communicator and strong writer who is able to generate flawless communications products, including insights articles, thought leadership pieces, press releases, one-pagers and social media content.
Proactive and independent – this role requires someone who takes initiative, can work independently, is a self-starter and has a strong work ethic.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment with a small team. Be able to juggle multiple tasks with composure and professionalism.
Strong communicator externally and internally.
Highly organized in planning, execution and follow-up. Able to create future-looking plans to accomplish communications and event goals – a forward thinker and problem solver.
Highly engaged in the day-to-day operations and strategy of Sustain SC. Team player, and able to communicate roles, tasks and follow-ups internally.
Flawlessly plan and execute all parts of an event from linen dry cleaning to producing detailed run-of-shows and error-free PowerPoint decks.
Creative, strategic and innovative – someone who can think outside of the box to offer new ideas to help Sustain SC grow.
Highly motivated and driven to help Sustain SC succeed and continue to elevate our brand in the state, and establish a career with Sustain SC.
This person will report directly to Sustain SC’s Director of Sustainability.
JOB DESCRIPTION
COMMUNICATIONS
Writing:
Draft all Sustain SC communications as detailed below, including long-form articles, press releases, email communications, event promotional materials, one-pagers, event summaries and social media content.
Manage and draft Sustain SC’s Annual Report and annual membership survey.
General:
Schedule weekly communications call, maintain agendas and conduct internal and external follow-up.
Develop new communications strategies to reach new audiences in partnership with the Director of Sustainability.
Highlight and grow Sustain SC’s external presence.
Social media:
Develop, manage and maintain Sustain SC social media calendar across platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram YouTube and X/Twitter.
Conduct bi-annual reporting to identify opportunities to further deepen Sustain SC’s reach.
Newsletter:
Prepare and send out a monthly newsletter during the first week of each month.
Conduct bi-annual reporting on newsletter metrics.
Insights Articles:
Prepare monthly Insights Article featuring Sustain SC members and partners.
Develop content calendar for each quarter.
Earned Media:
Identify quarterly earned media opportunities.
Develop and send out press releases as needed.
Maintain media list.
Member Materials:
Update member materials and presentations as needed.
Update, maintain and send out membership welcome toolkit.
Website and Design:
Manage and conduct regular website updates and in Square Space.
Conduct annual review of website content to ensure it is aligned with Sustain SC’s strategic direction.
Work in Canva and Adobe Pro to update Sustain SC templates and graphics for events.
EVENT COORDINATION
Prepare, plan, coordinate and execute all event logistics, including for Sustain SC’s Sustainability Leadership Initiative in partnership with the Shi Institute at Furman University.
Event management includes:
Organizing logistics, including venue, room set-up, technology run-throughs, catering and clean-up.
Vendor selection, coordination and management.
Project planning and management of timeline, overall logistics and flow.
Day-of coordination and clean-up.
Event communication follow-up:
Taking notes on event content and conducting follow-up with speakers and sponsors.
Drafting long-form event summaries and take-away pieces to disseminate through communications channels.
ADMIN SUPPORT
Create and order name tags/business cards as needed for staff and board members.
Order supplies for staff and organization.
Manage contacts, follow-ups and payments in CRM.
Other projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
5-7 years of experience preferred in communications and event planning. Salary range is $70,000 - $85,000, or commensurate with experience. This position will be remote; however, employees must live in South Carolina. One to three days of travel per week throughout the state of South Carolina is expected. Candidates must maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
