Chief Executive Officer
Job Description
Sustain SC is a nonprofit organization with a mission to connect the sustainability goals of business in South Carolina with local solutions for the benefit of our economy, environment, and people. With the continued growth of the organization, we are seeking a Chief Executive Officer with strong leadership, managerial, and fundraising experience with a background in economic development, external affairs, corporate sustainability, or related management level experience as well as credible experience in the conservation community. Leadership, team building, problem-solving, work ethic, professionalism and integrity are paramount.
This individual will work closely and collaboratively with Sustain SC’s Founder, Board, Senior Vice President, and consulting team.
Objectives
Executive management: board, staff, contract employees
The organization seeks to transition from an ideation and creation cycle to fine tuning the internal organizational structure and processes phase
Needs to embrace and execute both a leadership and managerial role
Implement programming versus visionary
Strong board management skills
Strategic growth of the organization
Cultivate and manage organization partnerships
Manage Pillars/ Roadmap to Sustain SC implementation
Develop short and long term goals for the organization and the key tasks and objectives to be successful
Revenue
Oversight and management of the overall budget
Responsible for cash flow, salaries, and financial health of the organization
Generate revenue through membership, sponsorship, consulting opportunities, philanthropic donations, and other sources that mirror the mission
Approval of expenses
Membership
Responsible for creating membership and fundraising metrics and goals
Cultivate and solicit membership investors
Create strategies to engage and recruit new members
Retain current Sustain SC members
Enhance Sustain SC’s membership ROI and benefits for membership
External Affairs
Manage the integrity of the brand
Decision maker for communications timeline and PR
Speaker for top speaking engagements on behalf of Sustain SC
Watershed Resource Registry
Implementation of next steps and direction for WRR
Land and Water Action Fund
Oversee hiring process for program director
Solicit funding
Match projects with funding
Spearhead the Annual Summit
Manage and invite key VIPs to attend and or speak
Create programming for the event
Day to day organization operations
With the assistance of Team, implement the employee handbook
Track and approve PTO and other FTE benefits
Ensure scope of work is being met and/or exceeded by consulting teams
Be willing to take on any necessary task to execute operations

Experience and Education
Minimum Level: 10 years in economic development, external affairs, corporate sustainability, conservation, philanthropic fundraising or related management level experience
Preferred Level: 15+ years
Bachelor's Degree required
This position will be remote pending potential establishment of a formal office; employees must live in South Carolina. Routine travel throughout the state of South Carolina as well as out-of-state meetings will be required. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
Salary range is $130,000 - $165,000, or commensurate with experience.
