Hear From Founding Corporate Membership Network Member - Google

Google played an integral role in getting Sustain SC off the ground. Not only is the company a Corporate Membership Network member, but a founding partner as well. Lilyn Hester, Google’s Head of Southeast Public Affairs, was instrumental in cultivating that partnership. Hester is now a board member and SLI fellow.

“Google is proud to be a founding partner of Sustain SC,” says Hester. “We recognized early on that Sustain SC’s mission to connect sustainability goals of businesses with local natural resource solutions mirrored our own priorities as a company - ensuring support for both our economy and our environment.”

Google planted roots in South Carolina more than a decade ago through its data center in Berkeley County. The global company has made sustainability a priority long before it became a trend. Google has been carbon neutral since 2007 and is committed to operating entirely on 24/7 carbon free energy by 2030. Hester’s heavy involvement with Sustain SC is a natural fit.

“As a board member and an SLI fellow, it’s been an honor to be part of Sustain SC’s first year in South Carolina,” Hester says. “I have seen first-hand how the SLI has brought the state’s brightest thought leaders to the same table and encouraged businesses to be part of the sustainability conversation regardless of where they are in the process. I feel my certification will help me realize Google’s goals in both the short term and long term.”
